Embercrown Saga
Embercrown Saga is the kind of role-playing game that respects a phone screen. Menus are big, the turn-based combat reads clearly at a glance, and you can pause a fight mid-turn without losing your place. The story follows a scattered group of exiles trying to rebuild a fallen order, and the writing has more personality than I expected from a mobile RPG.
Combat rewards planning. Each character leans into a role, and swapping party members between fights genuinely changes how encounters play out. I spent a while just tinkering with skill combos before a boss, which is exactly what a good RPG should make you want to do.
Progression is generous with your time. You can grind if you like, but the difficulty curve is tuned so that a thoughtful player rarely hits a wall. It's a long game, and it earns that length.
